About Us
"In May
2005, the Carrigaline Gospel Singers came together as a small group for the
first time. A lucky accident - a few people with a shared wish for
something a bit different and one remarkable nun, Sr. Noreen, who had the
inspiration to bring it all together. Something we will all be grateful to
Sr. Noreen for!
Through
word of mouth, gradually our numbers increased and we began to sing in public,
but due to other commitments sadly our director at the time, Orla, was unable to
stay with us. Orla had put in such a lot of work and had inspired a lot of
confidence within the group, so we were determined to keep going. A few of
us continued to meet and sing once a week and we were very thankful to Máire
Cogan who stepped in and made it possible for us to do a second Christmas
morning mass.
In the
words of our song, 'There's Gonna be a Great Day', indeed there was! Under
the direction of Karen Cogan, the Carrigaline Gospel Choir has continued to go
from strength to strength. As members of the choir, each practice leaves
us uplifted as we sing through our harmonies bringing together a vibrant
sound.
We are
also delighted that Sr. Noreen continues to give her tremendous support to the
group."
